NYU biologist, fellow skeptic, and board member of New York City Skeptics Yelena Bernadskaya, Ph.D. will be leading us in a Conversation on the truth and misconceptions of CRISPR. There are many things we don’t yet know as well as the many misconceptions about this revolutionary technology. We will also be discussing the ethical implications of all of this.

As a primer, we highly recommended the documentary Human Nature, available on Netflix. We will show a few clips from the film to help kickstart our conversation.

Yelena Bernadskaya, Ph.D, is a senior research scientist in the NYU Biology Department. Her work focuses on understanding how the intersection of gene regulatory networks and cell biological processes produces large-scale cell behaviors during embryonic development. She received her Ph.D in Cell and Developmental Biology from Rutgers University. Yelena is also interested in science outreach and serves on the board of directors of NYC Skeptics, a non-profit dedicated to promotion of critical thinking and science education. In her spare time she attempts to do science standup.

Join your fellow skeptics and critical-thinkers at our virtual dine in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. But remember: no talk of politics, religion, or global warming!

PLEASE CONTACT A MEETUP ORGANIZER IF YOU NEED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.

We hope to see you all there!
